“Make certain not to perform your righteousness before men to be viewed by them; otherwise, you will have no reward with your Father, who is in the heavens. When you give alms, do not trumpet it aloud, as the charlatans play acting in the synagogues and in the stress so human beings may praise them. Amen, I tell you, they have their full reward. When you give to the needy, do not allow your left hand to know what your right is doing so that your giving is kept secret. Your Father, who watches what is secret, will reward you openly. When you pray, do not be like the playacting hypocrites, for they love to pray while standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets so that they may display themselves to others. I tell you truly, they have received their reward in full. When you pray, enter your private room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is in secret. Your Father, who watches what is secret, will reward you openly. (Matthew 6:1-6)
The Lords Prayer
“When you pray, do not babble repetition phrases as the gentiles do, for they imagine that they will be listened to by their many words. So do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Therefore, pray this way: ‘Our Father who is in the heavens, let your name be held holy. Let your Kingdom come, and your will come to pass, as in heaven and on earth. Give us today enough bread for the day ahead and excuse our debts, just as we have excused our debtors. And do not bring us to trial, but rescue us from the wicked man. For yours is the Kingdom, power, and the glory unto the ages. Amen.’” (Matthew 6:7-13)
“If you excuse human beings of their offenses, your heavenly Father will also excuse you. But if you should not excuse human beings, neither shall your Father excuse your offenses. And when you fast, do not adopt a sullen countenance like the play-acting charlatans. They disfigure their faces so that it is apparent to men that they are fasting. Amen, I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face so that you show yourself fasting not to humans but to your Father, who is in secret. And your Father, who watches what is secret, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:14-18)
Where Is Your Treasure
“Do not store treasures for yourself on earth where moths and rust destroy, and thieves dig their way in and steal. Rather, store up for yourself treasure in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and thieves neither dig their way in nor steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be. The lamp of the body is the eye. Thus if your eye is pure, your entire body will be radiant. But if your eyes are bad, your entire body will be dark. So if the light within you is darkness, how great is the darkness? No one can be a slave to two lords. He will either hate one and love the other or stand fast by one and disdain the other. You can not slave both for God and for Mammon.” (Matthew 6:19-24)
