The Early Years: Introduction To Jesus

, , ,

This is the beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Many people have set out to collect an orderly account of all that has happened among us. Some of those people were eyewitnesses and became servants of the word, and they passed that account on to us. I, Luke, thought it would be a good idea to take all the events and actions of Jesus I tracked and write them out for you, most exalted Theophilus. As requested, you can verify what you’ve heard and been taught. (Luke 1:1-4; Mark 1:1)

Now, in the beginning, there was the Word. The Word was present with God, and the Word was God. This one was with God in the beginning. All things came through him; without him, there would be nothing. In him was life, and this life was the light of man. This light shined in darkness, and the darkness could not put it out. (John 1:1-5)

At the perfect time, a man named John, whom God sent, came to us testifying about the light so that we all might come to know about the light. However, John was not the light; he came only to testify about it. The true light was coming! It illuminates everyone, and it is coming into the universe. (John 1:6-9)

Jesus, The Light Of The Universe

The true light was in the universe, which came to be because of him. However, the universe and all things and beings did not recognize him. He went to those who were his own, and those who were his own didn’t accept him. Some, however, received Him and put their faith in His name. For those who did, He gave them the power to be called children of God. It made no difference who they were, whether they were born from “the right” bloodline, worked actions performed from human ways, or from a man’s desire. None of that mattered. One became born of God, or called a child of God, by having faith and putting their faith in His name. (John 1:10-13)

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, the glory of the Father’s only one, full of grace and truth. John testifies concerning him. He would cry out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.’” From the fullness of His grace, we all received blessings. Remember, in the Old Testament, when the law was given through Moses? Similarly, grace and truth came through Jesus the Anointed. Nobody has ever seen God, the one and only God, at the Father’s side. The Father has made Him known. (John 1:14-18)

Genealogy Of Jesus

We are talking about Jesus Christ, the son of David. He was born to Joseph, who was married to Mary. The Genealogy of Jesus is tracked through Joseph’s legal lineage and Mary’s natural lineage. A few highlights were that Jesus came from the bloodline of Soloman, whose father was David, whose father was Jesse. Going back a few generations, we see Jesus also shared a common ancestry, a descendant from Judah, whose father was Jacob. Jacob’s father was Isacc, and Isaac’s father was Abraham. Even further back, we trace Jesus coming from Shem (Noah’s Son). Noah’s great-grandfather’s name was Enoch. A few more generations back, we find Jesus’ bloodline is connected to Seth, whose father was Adam. And Adam’s father was God. (Matthew 1:1-17; Luke 3:23b-38).
