In The Beginning

What Is At The Beginning?

We have all heard the very first words of the Bible: “In The Beginning…” We quickly learn about God, who He is, his plan, etc. It’s a great beginning. Everything was organized and good. Nobody in the religious circle has questions about this. We believe it, accept it and are happy with it. But what about Jesus? If one thinks the entire Bible is about Jesus, how does the creation story expound upon that?

I believe Trant Hunter and Stephen Wellum once said in Christ from Beginning to End, “Everything in the Old Testament points to Jesus, and everything in the New Testament expounds upon Him.” And I, personally, believe that is true. The Bible is a complete and unified story about Jesus. These upcoming lessons regarding Jesus The Messiah will be heavily based on their book, and I suggest all give it a read.

Ephesians 1:7-10 (CSB)

7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace 8 that he richly poured out on us with all wisdom and understanding. 9 He made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he purposed in Christ 10 as a plan for the right time—to bring everything together in Christ, both things in heaven and things on earth in him.

Christ Is The Plan

What Paul is saying in the scripture above is that God has a plan. And God set this plan in motion at the very beginning. And this plan that He set in motion is in Christ. We are at the right time at this moment. Christ has come; he brought heaven on earth, and everything before Jesus points to him.

The plan is all about Jesus. Jesus understood this, and Paul understood this. Jesus himself, after rising from the dead, began teaching those around him all the things about himself from the law and the prophets (The Old Testament as we know it today).

Luke 24:27 (CSB)

27 Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures.

And Paul, likewise, under house arrest, spend the entire day teaching the leaders and those with authority all the things about Jesus from the law and the prophets.

Acts 28:23 (CSB)

23 After arranging a day with him, many came to him at his lodging. From dawn to dusk he expounded and testified about the kingdom of God. He tried to persuade them about Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets.

Do We Know About Jesus?

Have you once considered that to Paul and Jesus that it was second nature to discuss and show that Jesus was the Messiah from the Law and the Prophets? Something that I don’t believe any of us could naturally do with ease today. We could certainly go into one of the Gospels and discuss things about Jesus. We can teach that he is compassionate, merciful, loving, etc. But could we consult with a stranger about how He was the one to complete the plan at the fullness of time?

Could we go into the story of Adam, Noah, Abraham, etc., and explain how Jesus is and how he fulfills the prophecy, the covenants, and the law? Let’s join together to discover how Jesus is the Messiah.
